This little man right here is named Ty. Ty has Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) which has caused him to be visually impaired since he was born.I’ve been his voice teacher for the past 2 years but he’s taught me more important things than I’ve taught him.
Ty (and his family), have reinforced the idea that it doesn’t matter what happens in life. What matters is how you respond to it. Maybe you’d think that having this disease would result in a negative atmosphere. You’d think that it’d be really difficult to deal with every day. But this is the way life has always been for Ty and he makes the most of it. He’s happy! He hangs on you, hops around, smiles, and makes up his own words just like any other kid. He’s brought a lot of joy into my life and he does that for everybody around him.
His parents created an organization called “Ty’s Eyes” and each year they put together a few events that raise money for LCA research. Ty and I always perform our “Baby” duet. He sings the Justin Bieber part and I rap the Ludacris part. Yes, I rap. Ty also sings “Hero” by Mariah Carey in an attempt to make you break down crying.
The cure for LCA is coming soon and I can’t wait to experience the miracle with him and his family.
